San Giovanni Rotondo is today one of the main centres of international religious tourism thanks to its devotion to Padre Pio.

San Giovanni Rotondo lies on the slopes of Monte Calvo, the highest peak of the promontory, in a valley in the centre of the Gargano at an altitude of 600 m. The small village in the heart of the Gargano National Park is an important pole of international religious tourism, thanks to the figure of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, who lived and worked here. It is the crypt of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, where his remains are kept, the fulcrum of devotion, destination of constant pilgrimages, today enclosed in the new complex designed by Renzo Piano.
