The pilgrimage to Assisi is dedicated to St Francis, with a visit to the Basilica and celebration of Holy Mass.
The city of St Francis has a millennial history, with important Roman, medieval and Renaissance remains.
The pilgrimage is based at the Domus in the immediate vicinity of the imposing Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, built between 1569 and 1679 to protect the Porziuncola, the small church that welcomed the first community of Franciscans, and the chapel of the Transito, where St Francis died on 4 October 1226.
Assisi is located on the slopes of Mount Subasio and is the universal centre of the Franciscan message of peace and brotherhood.
Built with the typical ‘pink stone’ of Subasio, Assisi offers all visitors an atmosphere of deep spirituality.
Its historic centre, the Basilica of St Francis and the other Franciscan sites, together with almost the entire municipal territory, were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
Among the many monuments, the Basilica of St Francis stands out, with the Saint’s tomb and masterpieces by some of the greatest artists of all time. Discover all the spirituality of the pilgrimage to Assisi, in 2 days dedicated to Saint Francis.
