The basilica of Santa Maria del Fonte near Caravaggio is one of the symbolic places of the Catholic religion, in the territory of Caravaggio, in Lombardy, and dedicated to the cult of Santa Maria del Fonte, who, according to tradition, appeared on 26 May 1432, in front of the young peasant girl Giannetta de’ Vacchi. Today, the Sanctuary of Caravaggio, as well as being an important place of prayer, houses a reception centre for pilgrims and the sick, a marriage and family counselling centre and a spirituality centre. A pilgrimage to Caravaggio includes a visit to the basilica and the celebration of Holy Mass, for moments of true spirituality and devotion.
