The Pontifical Minor Basilica of St Anthony of Padua is one of the main Catholic places of worship in Padua.
Known worldwide as the Basilica del Santo, or more simply as the Saint, it is one of the largest churches in the world and is visited annually by millions of pilgrims, making it one of the most revered shrines in the Christian world. It is not, however, the city’s cathedral, a title held by the cathedral. It houses the relics of St Anthony of Padua and his tomb.
In addition to the Basilica of the Saint, we visit the Sanctuary of the Vision in Camposampiero. The existing small church, dedicated to St John the Baptist, where the Saint had prayed, celebrated the Eucharist and preached, was completely renovated and enlarged in 1437 by Count Gregorio Callegari of Camposampiero. The new and ornate temple was the destination of continuous pilgrimages of devotees of the Saint.
