After breakfast and meeting with the guide, transfer by coach to Cascia.
This morning we visit the places dear to Saint Rita of Cascia, one of the world’s best-loved saints.
We will enter the Basilica dedicated to her and then pass through the Monastery where Saint Rita lived and was an example for forty years, before arriving at the Church of San Francesco, dear to the Order of Friars Minor, and the Church of Sant’Agostino, one of the oldest in the area.
Short bus transfer to Roccaporena.
We begin our tour of the small village by visiting the suggestive Scoglio Sacro (Sacred Rock) from below, where Rita used to climb to pray and feel closer to God.
We then continue to the Orto del Miracolo (Garden of the Miracle), with its bronze sculpture of the seriously ill Saint with her cousin leaning over her.
We leave Roccaporena to arrive at a place that embraces both spirit and myth, the Abbey of San Felice and Mauro. We will have lunch inside the abbey complex, founded by two Syrian priests in the 5th century. It is said that it was the two of them who defeated the dragon that infested the area.
After visiting the abbey, we move by coach to Spoleto.
Thanks to a network of escalators, we will begin our visit of the city from the imposing Rocca which towers above it; we will take the so-called “walk” of the Spoleto inhabitants, meeting the suggestive Ponte delle Torri, the symbol which most identifies Spoleto, then around the corner the magnificent view of the Piazza del Duomo, dedicated to the Assunta with an unforgettable façade; we will arrive in the Piazza del Mercato which houses two Roman arches. We return to the bus for a visit to the Monastery of S. Ponziano, just outside the walls, with a spectacular and interesting crypt.
Return by bus to the Domus. Dinner and overnight stay.
